Today was the 10,000m track event, not only a Browne Shield event which also counted as the state championship. Today’s event recorded the highest registration number of participants. This meant that our members had to be early at the track to help set up for today’s proceedings. It was the 2nd year for us organising the meet and we were looking forward to present it the best way possible.
Due to large number of attendees we had three heats. The first heat was split into two groups.
The weather was looking good at first, but changed quickly and light rain did set in. After all the work from our coach, it was not unusual that we had the highest number of participants. Not only this, we can be proud that we had participants in nearly all age groups with all abilities present.
Everyone was happy that lap scoring was no longer necessary, thanks to technology taking over. The new timing system was working well and helped to keep the event on a tight schedule. The runners were split by time, and the seond group had their start at 09:40am. By then, the rain had stopped and everyone not running or involved in other duties was listening to the music and encouraging the runners on the track to give their best. Meanwhile, the last group got their chips and were ready to start. This race was over quickly due to the fact this group consisted of the fastest runners. There were some outstanding results. Yassine did run 40:01.39 in the age group 70-74 and reached 91.16% age grading. This was also a new Victorian record (pending for ratification).
Back in the club room we all enjoyed a hot drink, hot soup and other fine foods.
Before Rob (VMA President) started the presentation it was time to find out who was the winner of our raffle. A big thank you goes to Arlene for presenting a beautiful hamper full of goodies.
The overall feedback of today’s event was overwhelming with many positive comments on various Facebook pages which shows that we made the right decision by taking on the event two years ago.
