VMA 10,000m track championship 2026 at Casey Cardinia Masters

Today was one of the club’s highlights, holding the Victorian Masters 10,000m track championship and 2nd round of the 2026 Browne Shield series.

An early start was on the agenda to setup everything, especially the timing device. All VMA members were looking forward to the improved way of time taking as it meant everyone could come without the need of a lap scorer.

The weather forecast for the day was promising. The overnight rain had stopped and for a change, there was no wind. With a record number of entries (114), there was a challenge to set up early on the day to be ready and on time.

The first race was split into two groups ensuring runners of all abilities could start. The first event did start at 08:00am sharp followed by the second group, starting from lane five at 08:25am who joined the early starters on lane one after the first bend. Yes, there was a little bit huffing and puffing, but everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. No wonder as the sun came out and music was playing to entertain the competitors.

Groups two and three were doing their 25 laps in perfect conditions and many PBs were achieved.

Most people joined us in the club room for tea, coffee and something to eat. It was especially nice to see that so many of our members came today to support the event on and off the track. Arlene did a brilliant job arranging three hampers from all the member donations and the raffle tickets were sold like hot cakes.

Thanks to the electronic timing Rob was able to do the presentation without major delay. There were some outstanding results with age grading above 80%. The highest score for ladies was achieved by Janet Robinson with 84.73% and for the men is was Yassine Belaabed with 87.23%. Congratulations to both athletes.
