10 Mile VMA Championship 2026

What a day! The 10 mile event was organised by the Knox Masters. The venue catered for the 10 mile State Championship as well as the fourth round for this years Browne Shield series.
Knox volunteers were well prepared to receive a high number of participants. The course was the same as last year. We started at the car park, doing two full loops on the Ferntree Gully bike track before coming back to the athletics track and the running of the last lap to before crossing the finishing line. VMA and Knox did everything to cater for all capabilities by having four heats.
The weather was sunny but the temperature was in the low teens and it was quite windy.
Starting the last goup at 09:00am meant that 103 Masters were on the course battling it out for a podium position or chasing their on personal goal. Runners coming back to the clubhouse, enjoyed a warm drink and a snack while waiting for the final results. Thanks to Rob and his team using a chip based timing system which ensured a quick turnaround.
The presentation opened with the announcement that event was named the “Lavinia Petrie 10 Mile Road Championship”. By renaming the event, Knox is honouring Lavinia’s lifetime achievements in the sport as an athlete and a coach. Lavinia is not only well known to the track community but also to the ultra runners. Whether it was 6 hours on the track, trails in the Australian Alps, the Comrades in South Africa or 100 km on the road - she did it all.
The winner of the inaugural Lavinia Petrie is awarded to the highest age graded runner, c(F65 age group) with 87.88%.
Thank you to all members that made the effort to line up at the starting line. The team spirit and camaraderie is a testimony to our club and is reflected in the high participation rate, the highest from all venues.
This concludes the part of the Browne Shield where we run together in the same event. The last and final event, the half marathon works on the basis that the runner nominates her or his preferred race. There are six events to choose from. Looking forward to join you at the final stage of our 2026 Browne Shield Series.
